Who we are
The Health Care Institute is an IFMA Alliance Partner welcoming facility professionals who work for hospitals and related organizations.
More than 400 hospital administrators, facility managers, design and construction professionals, consultants, vendors and students who serve academic medical centers and community hospitals, retirement facilities, specialty hospitals and clinics belong to the Health Care Institute of IFMA.
The Health Care Institute offers the same industry-specific experience you would expect from an IFMA council—a global exchange of best practices and discussions on the latest innovations in the field; however, as an IFMA Alliance Partner, Health Care Institute members have access to select IFMA benefits directed at individual skill development.
HCI Midwest Board of Directors
Troy leads the Business Development efforts at RJM Construction. He has been in the industry for over 27 years. His experience includes commercial buildings, healthcare facilities and large scale renovations. He provides support and leadership to the RJM team and has a proven track record of delivering successful projects. Troy helps to identify, establish and maintain long-term, trusting relationships with clients in markets that align with RJM's overall strategic plan.
Troy has earned the designiation of a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) by the American Hospital Association.
Stephanie serves as a senior project interior designer and medical planner with RSP Architects’ Minneapolis office. She has18 years of professional experience focused almost exclusively on creating a diversity of healthcare environments. Stephanie has had the opportunity to design facilities for many health care organizations throughout the United States.
Her caring and personal approach to planning and design enhances the patient, family and caregiver experience. She is committed to design excellence in realizing project goals through close collaboration with her clients while applying best practice models, evidence-based and sustainable design methodologies. Some of her projects have won numerous awards and she is a published author on subjects relating to facility design.
BDH+young, NCIDQ Certified, LEED AP ID+C
Beth Nordstrom is a prominent member of the design industry, and provides leadership for one of the largest interiors and architectural design firms in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
Beth serves as Partner at bdh+young. Her passion for creativity, design, and understanding of design efficiencies and functional needs is evident in her impressive body of work over the past 26 years.
Beth is an advocate for creative and effective design solutions, using multi-disciplinary team approach to create functional, efficient, and creative spaces in the medical and dental areas. Working directly with clients, she listens to what their needs are and utilizes her design skills to solve their problems. She enjoys coming up with unique designs that get the most out of available space, creating efficiencies in work flow, and ensuring that creative touches are all part of this process.
Haldeman Homme, Inc
Heidi works in Business Development for Haldeman Homme, Inc. As Haldeman Homme's DIRTT Champion, she works with end users, designers, architects and general contractors to implement manufactured construction solutions from DIRTT. Our healthcare spaces can help enhance patient wellbeing while supporting the diverse needs of medical teams. She is passionate about sustainability and building interior spaces that adapt to the constantly changing needs of healthcare.
Heidi is excited about the opportunity to learn more about the industry and engage with the local HCI community.
Dwight has over 40 years of construction experience with an emphasis on healthcare construction. He is ASHE (American Society for Healthcare Engineering) HCC certified, a specialist in infection control, mold/hazardous material remediation, interim life safety, Joint Commission and cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing protocols, as well as being a LEED AP.
He also has developmented a wealth of knowledge during his time at Minnesota State University, Mankato focusing on construction management. He furthered his knowledge in construction and business at Dunwoody and The University of St. Thomas Master Business program. And is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota in the Construction Management program.
He has experience both within the healthcare organizational ownership and the general contractor side of construction, which has provided a well-rounded prospective Healthcare projects.
LEO A DALY, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Elizabeth is the Market Segment Leader for Healthcare at Leo A Daly and has been a practicing Architect and project manager for over 14 years. She has been doing healthcare architecture for over ten of those years and is registered in South Dakota and Minnesota. Her main interest is in Community Health and how people, environments and community can impact the health of the individual. She is also an expert in green building and design, taking project leadership in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) process.
Elizabeth emphasizes the need to create space for users’ needs, and loves fostering relationships to ensure service and care to clients, both existing and new. She is passionate about Community and she has volunteered on various committees and boards with such organizations as Habitat for Humanity and Rotary International.
Matt is the Director of Business Development at Carlson-LaVine Construction. He organizes and manages the firm’s marketing and sales efforts in conjunction with the overall strategic plan.
Construction, in particular Health Care Construction, problems and solutions are often complex. For this reason, Matt is passionate about finding creative ways to communicate complex ideas and solutions. He is excited to be a part of the HCI team to help develop communication vehicles to share relevant health care industry information to its members.

Kraus-Anderson Construction Company
Mike Stark possesses both project management and extensive project estimating skills. He has been involved in a variety of healthcare project types including extensive expansion and renovation projects as well as tenant buildout projects since 2011. In 2016 Mike joined Kraus-Anderson’s healthcare project management team. He has a proven ability to complete projects on time and on budget. He brings to your project strength in team management and in controlling project budgets and schedules. Mike has strong communication and relationship skills that are effective with owners, architects/engineers and subcontractors. He is a dedicated team player with innovative ideas based on knowledge and experience.
